Utilizing the 4.5-mile full course configuration in Utah, the waving of the green flag witnessed the Star Mazda Championship field going four and five wide down the long front-straight. Only narrowing to two and three wide at the first turn, Goring moved into the lead, just ahead of Davison and Mandarino, who had passed several cars with daring outside move. Pushing his car to limit on cold tires, Goring was able to establish a gap on the fight for second place, which witnessed  Mandarino finding a way past Davison’s Velocity Motorsports entry. Over the course of the next few laps the gap between the leaders fluctuated, with only JDC MotorSports driver Nick Haye passing for position within the top-five, making his way past AIM Autosport newcomer Natacha Gachnang. Within two laps, the top-five was further shuffled, as series leader Dane Cameron  moved into fifth place, just prior to Mandarino taking over the lead.

As the 15-lap race passed the midway point, the only real fight for position among the leaders was for fourth place. Cameron repeatedly pressured his teammate, before taking the spot. Ahead of the battle for position, Mandarino was driving mistake free, steadily increasing his lead over Goring, who was coming under attack Davison. After looking for a way past corner after corner, the Australian passed the Andersen Racing driver just prior to the checkered flag. Never coming under any pressure of note, Mandarino crossed the stripe 1.235s ahead of the two-car fight for second, scoring his first career Star Mazda Championship win. Completing the top-five in the fourth race of the season were Cameron and Ross Smith Racing driver Marco Di Leo, who had started dead last after being disqualified in qualifying.
